NORA at Osaka Latin Dance Festival 2015

SALSA SINGER, WORLD RENOWNED SALSA ARTIST

NORA from Orquesta de la Luz
(Japan)

NORA is a talented artist who began her career as the lead singer of the Japanese Salsa band “La Orquesta De La Luz”.
As a child NORA was always intrigued and enamored with performing. At the age of three she had hopes of becoming a professional dancer when she was taking ballet lessons. In her senior year in high school, she became inspired to sing professionally at a school festival where she was the lead vocalist in an amateur Rock band. NORA developed an interest in Black Contemporary music and idolized Stevie Wonder, but when she began college she became enthralled with Salsa music.
Her interest in Salsa led to the creation of the Japanese Salsa band “La Orquesta De La Luz” in 1984 accompanied by her friends. The group revealed their sounds to the United States when she brought a demo tape to New York in 1987 and they began touring in 1989.
In 1990 the orchestra released its first album “De La Luz” on BMG Victor Records in Japan. The success of the album also happened overseas when this album was released in the United States under the name “Salsa Caliente Del Japon”. The album became number one on Billboard's Latin chart for 12 consecutive weeks and the group became one of the most prominent Japanese orchestras to ever play Tropical music earning international critical acclaim in Japan and the United States.

In 1991 and 1993, they won the "Special Prize" Award by the 33rd Japan Record Awards.
For two consecutive years they won "The Best Album of the Year" Award by La Association de Cronistas de Espectaculos de Nueva York (ACE Awards) in 1991 and 1992. They also won "The Best Band of the Year "ACE Award in 1992.
In 1993, the United Nations awarded them the "Peace Medal" and in 1995 they were nominated for the Grammy Awards in the category of "Best Tropical Latin Album."
La Orquesta De La Luz also received "The Best New Artists" Award by the Japanese minister of Education in the category of Popular Entertainment.
The group recorded seven albums, worldwide and toured for each album in North America, South America, and in Europe. After touring and recording for 13 years, La Orquesta De La Luz has broke up in 1997 in order to do solo activity of each member.

In 1996, NORA released her first solo album“Electric Lady” on BMG/Japan in Japan and on Sony Records in the United States.
In 1997, She was invited as special guest by the "Master of Salsa" Larry Harlow and his All-Stars to lead the group at the Blue Note Tokyo.
Her first solo performance in Asia was held in Seoul, Korea in October 1998.
In 1999, Her vocal talents and devotion to Tropical music reaffirms her artistic ability in her second solo album “Tratame Como Soy” on RMM in the United States and “Cuban Colors” on Universal victor in Japan. This production offers a diverse range of Latin sounds from Salsa and Mambo to Boleros, which NORA produced and recorded in Havana, Cuba. This album reemphasizes her superb vocal range proving that she is one of Tropical music's leading singers. She expanded her artistic responsibilities in this production. And in September, She performed in New York Salsa Festival at the Madison Square Garden as a soloist.
In April 2001, NORA became mother of the boy who has Spanish name “Leon”. After the childbirth, She released her third album “CIELO” on Village Records only in Japan. This album is including a few Japanese Pop songs with Salsa style arrangement.

In the wake of September 11th in New York, NORA organized “World Peace Music Festival” with the members of Orquesta De La Luz at Tokyo in 2002, 2003, 2004.
After these charity concerts, Orquesta De La Luz was reunited and restarted earnestly.

Yaxcell - Osaka Latin Dance Festival 2015

SALSA BAND

Yaxell Sagarra y su Son d K.Libre
(Cuba/Japan)

Son d K.Libre is a band formed in Osaka in 2014. Band leader;Yaxcell is from Cuba. This is a band he wanted to create over 10 years.. He wanted to creat a sound that makes people want to dance instinctively.. Since he came to Japan, he has met musicians that had the same passion to create same kind of sound, and the band was formed. Basing on the rhythm such as Son, Salsa, Rumba, Merengue, Guaracha, this band plays poweful music that are all original of their sound.

She started with the rhythmic gymnastics, a discipline where, among other things, you learn to form out of your body and extremities a nice pretzel.Such ability was surely right also for the street dance that she was concerned with during her whole school years. She acted in a show dance teams and worked out diverse choreographies.During the following years she added other dances to her repertoire to form out her dance abilities into more possibilities. Evelyn has her own special art of moving and interpreting the music: very sensual, smooth and fluent like no other.Over the years she has been visiting many countries in Europe and the Southern of America with great teachers such as Pasty, Mafiezouker and Adilio Porto. Curently Evelyn is working with Xandy Liberato with whom she works out the zouk into another level by adding the contemporary dance.Together they are traveling the world with their unique and emotive touching ‘Opera show’ and their succesfull classes

Amar

Amar is the founder and resident instructor at Dance Blaze Academy in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur . Amar’s early experience in the performing art of dance commenced at an early age in the non-Latin genres of Bhangra, Bollywood, Break Dancing and Hip Hop, before he ventured into other dance styles to prove his versatility. In 2004 Amar found himself as a student of Cuban Salsa, and with passion and hard work boldly moved on to teaching the dance style. After serving as a mobile instructor teaching at salsa clubs around Kuala Lumpur, Amar finally established his own space and Dance Blaze Academy was born.
Amar’s journey to dance school director was paid with many dues; from India, to Europe including UK and Holland, and all the way to Southeast Asia including Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia as home ground, Amar has taught, choreographed and performed his way upwards in the salsa world. As a respected member of the Malaysian salsa community, Amar has even been invited to judge various talent competitions including Latin Dance Championships and international beauty pageants.

Today, the salsa scenes in which Amar networks in recognize him as a leader in Cuban salsa, Afro-Cuban and Bachata. In addition, Amar is positioned as a go-to person for supplementary dance disciplines and techniques including body isolation, reggaeton and hip hop.

Azzy

Azzura Soraya or ‘Azzy’ grew up in East Malaysia, Borneo, and began dancing salsa back in 2004 when she moved to Kuala Lumpur. In 2007, Azzy made it to the top 20 of the first season of So You Think You Can Dance Malaysia, a turning point at which she decided to invest more seriously into dancing. Azzy often fuses her love for both dance and travel by attending salsa festivals wherever she goes, and has danced everywhere from the Europe including UK and France, to the Middle East and around Southeast Asia and Asia where she has performed with and led dance teams in Singapore, Thailand, India and Malaysia.

Trained in cross-body/line-style salsa, Azzy is fluent in various dance styles including On1, On2 and Cuban salsa, enjoys Bachata, dances hip hop regularly and has even dipped her toes into Zouk-lambada. However, what Azzy is most known for in the Malaysian salsa scene is her ladies’ styling, and describes her style as ‘funky-sexy’.

Azzy has been dancing with her partner Amar since 2010, and often contributes her talents to Dance Blaze Academy as a choreographer for partner-teams travelling to salsa congresses, and for coaching and conceptualising ladies’ styling performance routines.

【Salsa Shines】

【Cuban Son】

【Cuban Movement】

【Afro Samba】「
